Data-Driven Approaches to Pronunciation Variation Modeling for Automatic Speech Recognition

Synopsis:

This is a dissertation submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Science at Ghent University (UGent), Belgium. In this dissertation, I have proposed a number of new data-driven approaches to pronunciation variation modeling (PVM) at the level of the lexicon of a CSR system. The aim of my research was to raise the recognition accuracy of a CSR system by conceiving a methodology for automatically upgrading a baseline lexicon to a new lexicon with pronunciation variants, and for integrating this new lexicon in the recognition system.
