Paulo is an NLP research manager in the Montreal NLU language teams group. His research interests are artificial intelligence, text retrieval, evolutionary computation and pattern recognition. Graduated in computer science by the Pontifícia Universidade Catolica do Paraná – PUCPR (Curitiba, Brazil), Paulo has worked with industrial automation before starting his master's degree in text retrieval with agent systems, at PUCPR. In 1999 Paulo became a professor at PUCPR and between 2002 and 2006 he has pursued a PhD degree at the École de technologie supérieure – ÉTS (Montreal, Canada). As a professor, he developed a video game programming courses and a middle-ware for quick game programming, which were the foundation for an undergraduate program on video games programming. In 2009 he became an associate professor at the Universidade Federal do Paraná – UFPR (Curitiba, Brazil), where he was part of the continued education and international relations committees. In 2011 Paulo became a post-doctoral researcher fellow at ÉTS, and researched face recognition for video surveillance on unconstrained environments in a project with the Canada Border Service Agency. Paulo then joined Nuance in 2012, where he lead the SVoice NLU Portuguese development, and worked on Genie and DTV. Currently, Paulo is both an HR site manager the DTV NLU language teams project leader.
