Nate Blaylock is an NLP Architect and Research Manager in the NLP Products group. His current research focus is on natural language understanding and spoken information retrieval in spoken dialog systems. Prior to joining Nuance, Nate was a Research Scientist at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), where he led research efforts in spoken dialog systems, geospatial language understanding, and clinical information extraction. Before that, he worked two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Saarland University in Saarbrucken, Germany, where he led the university’s effort on the EU-funded TALK project for multimodal dialog systems. Nate received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Rochester in 2005, where his dissertation focused on modeling dialog as collaborative problem solving and techniques for fast and scalable intent recognition. He has published over 30 refereed papers in the areas of spoken dialog systems, natural language understanding, information extraction, and intent recognition.
