Lee Hetherington is Manager of the Dialog Optimization team. His research interest is in the area of spoken dialog systems.
Lee earned his S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His thesis examined the issue of out of vocabulary words in automatic speech recognition. As a research scientist in the MIT Spoken Language Systems group, Lee worked on various aspects of spoken dialog systems and developed the open source MIT Finite State Transducer toolkit. In 2011 he joined Vlingo (acquired by Nuance), where he developed and has maintained the dialog manager used in SVoice on Samsung Galaxy S, Note, and Gear mobile devices in both server and embedded applications. Lee is interested in dialog, natural language, automatic speech recognition, and software engineering.
