Oana Frunza is a Natural Language Processing Research Engineer in the Data Annotation group. Her research interests are in the area of Natural Language, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Her background is in computer science. Currently, Oana is working on improving data-annotation efficiency through generating automatic pre-annotations and implementing automatic annotation workflows. Oana obtained her Ph.D. and MSc. degree from University of Ottawa. Her doctorate thesis was titled “Personalized medicine through automatic extraction of information from medical texts”. Her past research interests also include the development of tools that can help second language learners of French with the reading comprehension task. She has explored the use of various lexical and semantic similarity measures to identify the degree of association between pairs of French-English words. Prior to joining Nuance she also held a short industrial postdoc.
