Mathias is a Research Manager NLP at Nuance. He leads the technology and infrastructure team in the NLU Application Research division. His research interests are in NLU, Machine Learning and general Computer Science. Mathias came to Nuance in 2007 to join the automotive NLU group, which was just starting up. In his five years working on automotive NLU, he created large parts of the Nuance embedded NLU engine, as well as most of the model training environment. In July 2012 he joined the Mobility division as an NLP Research Manager, first working on multi-lingual NLU model development, before switching to the technology and infrastructure team. Before joining Nuance, Mathias was a grad student, working in the novel area of example-based speech recognition. He holds a MSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Electrical Engineering, both from the Catholic University Leuven.
